Bone Grafting

A bone graft is used to recreate bone and soft supporting tissues lost caused by periodontitis. 
It is also called regenerative surgery that aims to stimulate the body into rebuilding lose gum coverage and alveolar bone support around teeth. For that, dentists rely on different materials such as:

• Autogenous bone grafts (patient’s own bone),
• Cow bone,
• Synthetic glasses,
• Barriers or membranes to protect the grafting material in the early stages of the healing.

The risks of the procedure are the same than any surgery like bleeding, swelling, infections, sensitivities to hot and cold, discomfort of the surgical site for a few days.

The benefits of the procedure are restoring or maintaining facial bone structure after tooth extractions, easing dental implant placement or used for the treatment of gum disease.
