There are number of reasons for bleeding gums. It could be caused by a sharp object like an unexpected bone in a piece of food that cuts healthy gums, or an aggressive brushing with a worn away end toothbrush but it is more likely that bleeding gums are caused by issues with the general standard of hygiene. If there is a default of plaque control, soft tissues will become unhealthy and the first stage of the disease is called gingivitis: an inflammation of gums and the surrounding tissue.
It leads to red and swollen gingivae with blisters of blood that could burst at anytime, causing bleeding gums. The treatment involves usually 4 steps:
